Milner Ecology Ltd undertook a full suite of ecological surveys including CCW Level III great crested newt surveys on 16 ponds and obtained a licence from the Welsh Assembly Government to disturb and capture great crested newts associated with a 1.7ha commercial development in North Wales on behalf of Flintshire County Council.

Milner Ecology Ltd undertook an extended Phase 1 Habitat survey of a proposed woodland burial site on the outskirts of Wokingham. The site was located within a large area of woodland designated as a Wildlife Heritage Site.

Calderdale Schools

Milner Ecology undertook a BREEAM Schools (2008) assessment on behalf of Calderdale Council as part of the refurbishment programme of three Victorian schools in Calderdale.

The project involved assessment of all three schools against Units LE3, LE4, LE5 and LE6 of the BREEAM code. This involved Phase 1 Habitat survey, botanical survey and assessment of protected species potential and exploration of opportunities for ecological enhancement.

The adoption of ecological enhancement measures and the production of site management plans enabled the award of six credits out of a possible eight to the schools.

Milner Ecology Ltd was appointed as Senior Environmental Advisor to represent the interests of National Grid on all environmental matters relating to the 94km pipeline.

This involved supplying general environmental advice to the Project Management Team on legislative compliance (including DTI consent conditions), review of all method statements and promotion of good environmental practice.

Kennet Valley Park

In a previous role, Ben Milner was involved with the EcIA for a 7500 home and associated infrastructure development in Reading on behalf of Prudential Property Investment Managers.

The project included six months of field survey over the 10km2 site to ascertain a baseline to inform the master-planning procedure including; Phase 1 habitat assessment of entire site, NVC assessment of 80 fields and 100 ditches, HEGS survey and assessment of 170 hedges, eight weeks of small mammal trapping, reptile survey of all potential habitat on site, badger survey of all potential habitat on site, great crested newt survey on 10 ponds, bat emergence survey of all potential habitat on site.

Improved Access to Wrexham Industrial Estate

In a previous role Ben Milner was involved with the DRMB Volume 11 Stage I, II and III level surveys for the 500m route corridor of a new 7.6km access road to Wrexham Industrial Estate on behalf of Wrexham County Borough Council/Symonds Plc. The study area contained 124 great crested newt breeding ponds and four main badger setts which were subject to potential disturbance and severance caused by the road.
